08/11/2013 Technological Portugal / Collaboration
The event, organized by Exame Informática Magazine and Expresso Newspaper on November’s 5th, relied on PT Inovação’s participation, which showcased some of its most recent technological developments, namely in the optical fibre networks’ area: Mobile Identity and Cloud Networking.
Francisco Balsemão, Impresa’s Group Vice-President, opened the conference by sharing, with the audience, the concept of “The Triple Helix” by Etzkowitz, which enhances the interaction between University, Company and Government as crucial for the innovation-based development.
On the first event’s panel, which included Rectors from highly reputable Portuguese Universities, the theme discussion was widely focused on support mechanisms for the teaching of Science and Technology as an axis to turn Portugal into a competitive country.
“How to make Portugal more innovative” was the second panel’s theme, which included representatives from the Portuguese business sector. Alcino Lavrador, guest participant for this panel, asserted that, in order to improve Portugal’s innovation climate, it is essential for the University to have bigger projection in the companies, and that these should share a global and international ambition, strategy already traced by the PT Group.
At the end of the conference, awards were distributed by Exame Informática Magazine, which annually distinguishes the projects that stand out the most in New Technologies and Science. The “Environmental Responsibility” Award was given to PT’s Data Centre in Covilhã, designed to guarantee a 360 degrees’ sustainability and to be an energetic efficiency reference. Alcino Lavrador, PT Inovação’s CEO, was awarded the prize, reaffirming PT’s sustainability commitment in the economical, social and environmental domains.
