The third conference of the "All of Portugal" Cycle, organized by Jornal Económico (JE) and Altice Portugal / Altice Labs, under the theme "Innovation as a stimulus for the development of the Central Region" was held on the 1st October at the Polytechnic Institute of Guarda.

The opening of the event had the presence of Carlos Chaves Monteiro, Mayor of Guarda, Alcino Lavrador, General Manager of Altice Labs, Joaquim Manuel Fernandes Brigas, President of the Guarda Polytechnic Institute, and Shrikesh Laxmidas, Deputy Director of Jornal Económico.

Alcino Lavrador stressed the fact that by bringing together in the real country, academy, media and business, it’s possible to create a platform for discussion on how each and every one of them can systematically contribute to economic and social development, "these conferences show the best of what is being done in different areas of activity in our country", noting that these conferences are aware of Altice Portugal's strategic values, namely the pillar of proximity to the territory.

During the conference there was opportunity to attend talks by various specialists, such as Keynote Speaker - Prof. Fernando Carvalho Rodrigues, the "father" of the Portuguese Artificial Satellite, who with the theme "Revitalization of the economic development of the central region" highlighted that once the interiority causing factors have been detected, they must be fought in order to not lose the "war".

Carlos Chave Monteiro mentioned that it is necessary to "reverse the cycle" of lack of investment in the interior, and it is necessary to increase the development rates of the interior regions, as well as the employability levels. "Nothing better than the example given here with the relationship of a company that aims to create economic development and dynamics with the municipalities, which I represent here, and with the Polytechnic Institute of Guarda".

Alcino Lavrador also reinforced Altice Portugal's position as one of the companies that invests the most in the country, with Altice Labs and "together with the academy and partners", at the "forefront of technology, facilitating the lives of people and businesses".

Most of the components of the three panels that were organized in this edition of All of Portugal have left no doubt: from academics to entrepreneurs and, especially, those on both sides, clearly emphasize that the technology developed around digital has already shown the huge capacity to unblock the interiority problem and that knowledge production is no longer a regional issue.

Parallel to the conference, there was an Altice Labs showroom with a demonstration of the Smart Mirror, a prototype that allows gesture interaction, with personalized content for the Guarda region. Many were interested in learning more about Altice Labs and the Smart Mirror project, from students to companies attending the conference.
